Monsoon Season, or Green Season, is a season from Don't Starve: Shipwrecked. It is equivalent to Spring. Monsoon Season is indicated by the world having a bluish green tint. By default, it begins on day 37 and ends on day 58. During Monsoon Season, nights gradually become shorter while days become longer. Dusks remain long.
Rain during Monsoon Season causes flooding. The first days of monsoon seasons are relatively rain-free. However, as the season progresses, rain becomes more frequent and flooding worsens until most of the land is flooded during the end of the season. Lightning, while present, is less frequent than during Hurricane Season and Strong Winds do not occur. Frequent rain means that Mushrooms grow back quickly.
The Rains in Monsoon Season come in waves, similar to Dry Season Volcanic Eruptions. Each rain will increase the size of existing puddles. Thus, the first rain of the season is important in limiting future flooding. Appropriate use of Sandbags can permanently prevent a puddle from expanding and remove existing flooding.
Poison Mosquitoes appear during Monsoon Season. They spawn in flooded areas.
Like in Spring, normal bees become aggressive towards the player. Crabbit holes collapse within the first days of the season. However, Sharkitten Den opens up and the chance of Tiger Shark spawning is the highest.
Monsoon Season is followed by Dry Season. The Long-term goal of Monsoon Season is to prepare for Dry Season in advance. It is more easily done within the first half of the season where flooding is not much of an issue and rains are not very frequent.
The primary concerns during Monsoon Season are managing flooding, wetness, poison, and preparing for Dry Season. Controlling flooding early in the season with Sandbags and crafted turfs limits the need to deal with both wetness and poison throughout the season. For this reason, quickly placing Sandbags at the 'eye' of puddles during the first rain is important. See Sandbags and Flooding for more information.
Crafted turfs such as Wooden Flooring can prevent puddles from spawning on them, but puddles can still expand into them. Snakeskin Rug can be used to prevent puddles from spawning in resource farms or any area that has plants. Structures such as an Alchemy Engine and Ice Box will not function while flooded.
If the player must venture into flooded zones, an Umbrella combined with a hat with a water resistance rating such as Top Hat or Football Helmet will prevent the player from getting wet. Snakeskin Jacket and Hat are also a suitable and cheap solution to combat Wetness if no high-end gear were found from X Marks the Spot. The Blubber Suit and Dumbrella are perhaps the best individual solutions because either one by itself makes the player immune to wetness. The Dumbrella also protects the player character from lightning strikes.
If poison is a concern, an ample supply of Anti Venom should be established before Poison Mosquitoes begin spawning. This can be accomplished either in the early days of the season or in previous seasons. Alternatively a Seashell Suit or Horned Helmet can be used to prevent poisoning from Mosquitoes. In an emergency, a Venom Gland can be consumed to remove poisoning, though this is not recommended due to the damage caused when consumed. For more details on dealing with Mosquitoes, see Poison Mosquitoes.
- Monsoon season is the easiest time to obtain Shark Gills for the Dumbrella due to the opening of the Sharkitten Den. The Tiger Shark will aggro when the player approaches the den or attacks a Sharkitten
